YouTube Video Editing Workflow: From Raw Footage to Published

Every strong YouTube edit follows roughly the same pipeline. Here’s ours, refined over hundreds of long-form projects.

1. Ingest & organize

Proxy generation, bin structure, marker pass on the raw footage. Boring, and the reason later stages go fast.

2. Structure pass (paper edit)

Decide the video’s spine before touching clips: hook, promise, sections, payoff.

3. Rough cut

Assemble the spine, kill dead air, get length within 15% of target.

4. Retention pass

Hooks re-checked, pattern interrupts placed, b-roll answers added, punch-ins on key lines.

5. Graphics, sound, color

Motion graphics and callouts, then full sound design, then grade — in that order, so the polish layers don’t fight each other.

6. Review & delivery

Timecoded client review, one structured revision round, exports in every needed format. 48–72 hours end to end on standard videos — the same system on the process page.
